Liverpool Law School students impress in Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
From 29 April to 14 May, we were honoured to welcome Professor Louis E. Wolcher as an International Visiting Fellow to the School of Law and Social Justice. Wolcher is Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington. He is the author of numerous books and articles with a particular focus on legal philosophy. His books include: The Ethics of Justice without Illusions (Routledge 2016) and Law’s Task: The Tragic Circle of Law, Justice and Human Suffering (Ashgate 2008).
Speaking to a packed audience at the Eleanor Rathbone Theatre in the University of Liverpool on Wednesday 8th May, Dr Omar Khan, Director of the Runnymede Trust, delivered a lecture as part of 2018-19 series of Eleanor Rathbone Social Justice Public Lecture Series. Dr Khan's lecture was entitled: 'Social Justice and the Lessons from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report: 20 Years On'.
Last month, Dr Amel Alghrani of the School of Law and Social Justice was invited Washington DC to provide an expert opinion on UK law for a lawsuit brought by an Ohio family against a fertility clinic. Dr Alghrani is an expert on reproductive law and has published extensively on the topic, including a recent monograph (Regulating Reproductive Technologies, New Horizons published with Cambridge University Press, 2018).
The UK Festival Awards has announced that it will present this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Festivals Award to Professor Fiona Measham. Throughout her 30-year academic career – beginning at King’s College, Cambridge and most recently as Chair in Criminology at the University of Liverpool – Fiona’s work has been shaped by her passion for music and dance culture.
