Law Clinic students shortlisted for national award

The Liverpool Family Advice Project, run by Students from the Liverpool Law Clinic, has been shortlisted for Best Contribution by a Team of Students at the 2023 LawWorks and Attorney General’s Student Pro Bono Awards. The awards celebrate the best pro bono activities undertaken by law students and law schools from across the UK.

The team of students leading the Liverpool Family Advice Project have been recognised for providing an outstanding level of commitment to the clients and the work of the project this academic year.  The Project provides advice and support to parents involved in private law disputes about children. Lead Students are trained to work with clients, assisting with key aspects of legal proceedings.

The Project is led by a core team of five final-year students, Olivia Clarke, Jordan Foulkes, Lauren Thompson, Amelia Smith and Phoebe Sutcliffe, who undertake casework with clients and provide training and support to the 30 second-year students who volunteer in the project.  All five of the Lead Students volunteered as second-years and have stayed on into the final year to help run the project.  They volunteer for at least one day a week and are completely dependable.  The two supervising solicitors, Helenor Birt and Lucy Yeatman, rely on them to make the project viable. Since the current Lead Students took up their role the Project has assisted 123 clients.

Helenor, Lucy and the 5 students will be attending the awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Thursday 27th April where the Award winners will be announced.
