Football kicked against the net.

Stockport County Football Club has appointed Dr Leon Moosavi, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology, to be member of their newly established equality, diversity & inclusion external working group. This working group has been created with the aim of advancing inclusive practices and promoting diversity across the club’s operations.

In this role, Dr Leon Moosavi will be a sounding board to help Stockport County Football Club achieve their mission of respecting and valuing individual differences, both visible or otherwise. His responsibilities will include offering feedback on club policies, advising on relevant issues, and fostering the implementation of best practices in equality and diversity, drawing from both within and beyond the football industry.

Speaking of the appointment, Dr Leon Moosavi shared: “I am honoured to begin working with colleagues at Stockport County Football Club (SCFC). SCFC are a leader in the footballing world in this area and I am impressed with their passionate commitment to celebrating diverse communities within Stockport. This role also has an extra layer of sentimentality for me given that I have been attending games at Edgeley Park since the 1990s”.

This role will build on Dr Leon Moosavi’s ongoing contributions to knowledge exchange, complimenting his position on the Advisory Board of the Race Equality Hub and appointment as an Honorary Research Fellow at a South African University.
