5: (Jesse Smith= Jane Phillips) Thomas Jones = Margaret Davies
4: Alfred Smith and Sarah Jane Jones
3: Children: Ivor, Bert, Wyndham, Stanley, Percy, Myra
Sarah Jane had been working in Cross Keys as a grocer's assistant with her brother Thomas. She married Alfred Smith (then living at Risca) in 1891.
When their first son (Ivor) died in 1893, Alfred moved to the USA (1893-96) to the Cleveland area where their next son (also named Ivor) was born. Sarah's brother Thomas and his family had established a grocery and bakery in Abercynon. Alfred and Sarah then established another grocery business in Abercynon, helped by his children (Ivor, Bert, Wyndham, Percy, Stanley and Myra). Ivor was killed in WW I.
Sarah Jane died (5 Sept 1908), a few years after Myra was born (6 April 1905). Alfred then married in 1920 Mary Emma Gulliver (Minnie) Chaloner (nee Wall) (known as Nana, b 21 Sept 1877) a widow who already had children of her own.
Sarah Jane Jones b 2 May 1871; died 5 Sep 1908 aged 37 (of 9 Margaret St Abercynon) interred at Risca cemetry (possibly in childbirth or from related causes)
Parents: Thomas Jones (b abt 1828 Pant Teg, d 27 March 1901 aged 74
of Newtown, North Risca, interred at Risca cemetry) married Margaret
Davies (b 1828 Llanwenarth, d 2 Oct 1919 aged 96[sic] of Waterloo House,
Crosskeys). Sarah birth cert gives mother as Davies.
Their first children were born at Llanhilleth, then, by 1861, they
lived at Ty Ysguborddu, near Blaenycwm and then by 1871 at Ty Shewy farm,
Blaenycwm (20 acres) and then 3 Waterloo Villas, Cross Keys. Margaret later
moved in with her son James and his wife Maggie and their children at
Pontywain.

Margaret Davis is not listed in either 1841 or 1851 return, but her descendents are stated (from obituary of Phillip Powell) to be closely related to the descendents of Jane; and they share the same birth area, and name of father and mother. Another sibling Charles, b 1825 (FreeReg), is also not listed in the census.
Jane Davies bap 28-2-1830 St Peter Llanwenarth Citra f: John, m: Mary [freeReg]
