Elizabeth Williams was born into a large family in 1852 and moved to Cardiff (between ages 20-25). There she met and married a young policeman, Edward Hayward, who had moved to Cardiff from North Devon.
Edward was promoted superintendent and their children were well educated: Edward as a lawyer; William as an accountant and Charles as a teacher.
