Congratulations to Liam Chandler for being the poster winner in the Nanoscience@Surfaces summer school.
The Nanoscience@Surfaces summer school took place on the 25-28th of July 2022 at the University of Liverpool.
Non-invasive beam profile monitors are highly desirable for modern accelerators. They can provide comprehensive information about the particle beam, such as beam sizes and emittances, without stopping the operation. This would be ideal for many applications, including high intensity and high energy applications, such as the Large Hardon Collider (LHC) and the European Spallation Source (ESS), and proton therapy accelerators, where a beam profile monitor based on a supersonic molecular curtain would guarantee a safe and smooth operation.

Saturday 9th December saw nearly 500 Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, Young Leaders and Scouting and Guiding Leaders visit the Central Teaching Laboratories (CTL) to take part in the 8th Annual Science Jamboree. Organised jointly between CTL staff and the School of Physical Sciences Outreach Team, supported by LUSAGGO (the Guild’s Scouting and Guiding society) and the Life Sciences Society, the Science Jamboree involved nearly 70 staff, undergraduate and postgraduate student volunteers who came together to organise 18 different activities. The event was sold out within two hours and had a waitlist of over 200 young people.
Researchers at the University of Liverpool's Bower Group have made a significant breakthrough in synthetic chemistry, unveiling a novel method for synthesizing α-amino acids with β-stereocenters, a feat previously regarded as challenging.
Members of the Physics Outreach Group ‘radiated’ their passion for their subject on Saturday 16th February as part of the Victoria Gallery & Museum’s Time themed Science fair marking the end of British Science Week 2024.
