Departments from across the Faculty of Science and Engineering worked together to deliver the 2014 Year 12 STEM Masterclasses from 24th - 27th June.
Visiting Year 12 students attended two hands-on workshops in subjects of their choice, giving them a taste of how the subjects are taught at university. It was also an opportunity for us to show off our outstanding teaching facilities - the Central Teaching Hub and the Active Learning Lab in Engineering.
The majority of the students attending came with groups from their schools/colleges (many of which had attended last year's Masterclasses), but a significant number (almost 50) were invited as a result of applying for a Nuffield Bursary.
A group of 25 students from Dulwich College in south London travelled the furthest to attend the Masterclasses; they combined their day of STEM activities with an overnight stay in Vine Court, and we hope that next year more schools/colleges from further afield will be able to take this option.
The Masterclasses have been a great success, and are now well established in the school/college calendar. We have already had enquiries about the 2015 event.
