Congratulations to Mollie Brown, 3rd year undergraduate student studying Medicinal Chemistry with Pharmacology, for achieving a First-class mark in her research project in the Ward group.
The aim of Mollie's project was to develop a new route to bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane (BCP) functionalised amino acids. During Mollie's short 8-week project, she completed a 4-step synthetic route and developed conditions for a new stereoselective C-C bond forming reaction. Mollie's work in the Ward group builds on her previous research lab experience working on a 6-week medicinal chemistry project at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mollie's project supervisor, Dr John Ward, commented: "It was a pleasure to host Mollie in our group and I'm extremely proud of what she has achieved. Mollie's results are very exciting and have kick-started our groups research in this area. We can't wait to see where it takes us!" Mollie added: “I am hugely grateful for the support I received from Dr John Ward, and it has been a privilege to work in the Materials Innovation Factory. I am looking forward to future projects and hope to pursue a career in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry after my degree”.
Mollie is due to start the fourth year of her MChem degree in September 2023.
