The School of Physical Sciences has achieved a Silver level Athena SWAN award for work undertaken to improve gender equality, the first Silver award for the Faculty of Science & Engineering.
Silver awards recognise that activity in place has had a positive impact on gender equality.
The School of Physical Sciences are particularly proud of the increase of female academic appointments in the School from 14% to 35% since 2014. Gender balance in promotions has also improved; 45% promotions in 2014 and 2015 were female staff compared to 15% in the previous 2 years.
Head of School and chair of the award application group, Professor Ronan McGrath said “I am delighted with this outcome. Our School can be proud of the hard work that has gone into this and the progress that has been made. We feel we have developed real momentum with respect to the equality agenda”.
