About

I am a part-time EdD Supervisor based in the Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES), School of Histories, Languages and Cultures. I take an active interest in the wider life of the academy and conduct research, regularly publishing in the areas of professional practice, and Leadership Preparation and Development (LPD). I have an active interest in gender and race. I am Visiting Senior Fellow for Education in the Department of Social Policy, at the London School of Economics.

I was awarded a Pearson National Teaching Award in 2020, having previously become a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching in 2019, and a Senior Fellow of the HE Academy in 2016, and a Fellow of the RSA in 2015. I have run a regional education charity since 2018, where we train teachers as part of a collaborative partnership with our local university, and run continuing professional and leadership development (CPLD) for science teachers, and head teachers. I also do consultancy work on gender and race equity for the Institute of Educational and Social Equity that was founded in 2019.

I came into Higher Education in 2008, after working in schools, and a ‘top ten’ sixth form college for 12 years, where I held various leadership roles. I have since run both undergraduate and postgraduate Education pathways at the University of Derby (2008-2015), and a Masters programme at the University of Warwick (2015-2018). I have been an EdD supervisor with Liverpool, originally through the Laureate partnership, since 2017. I am an active member of the Learned Society BELMAS where I have been a Trustee since 2016, and I am Chair 2023-2026. I established a BELMAS Research Interest Group (RIG) in Leadership Preparation and Development (LPD) in 2015, that I still co-convene, with the support of colleagues in Sweden and Australia, and I review for both our BELMAS Journals.

I am a member of BERA, and their Educational Leadership SIG, and a former International Committee member of IPDA (2013-2016). I am also a Regional Leader for the international grassroots movement @WomenEd, where we published a double Special Issue of SLAM recently. I am an Associate Editor of the journal Equity in Education, regularly review papers, externally examine, and now have 19 doctoral completions.LinkedIn Profile
