About

I am a member of the Condensed Matter Physics research cluster and the Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy. My research is on development of novel semiconductors and associated physics. I graduated with an MPhys in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Warwick (UoW) in 1998 and then obtained a PhD in Physics from UoW in 2002 with a thesis on the surface electronic properties of III-V semiconductors. My postdoctoral work at UoW focused on understanding the properties of novel dilute nitride semiconductors and indium nitride. In my EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (2008-2014), I investigated indium gallium nitride and transparent conducting oxides for use in full spectrum photovoltaics.

I moved to the Department of Physics, University of Liverpool in 2012 as one of the first members of the Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy. My research is currently focused on determining the properties of new earth abundant sustainable semiconductors for thin film photovoltaics, highly mismatched antimonide-based alloys for mid- and far-infrared applications, including thermophotovoltaics, and novel dopants for high mobility transparent conducting oxides. I was promoted to Chair of Materials Physics in 2017. I became Head of Department in October 2023.
