Professional Activities

Over the past 20 years, Denise has worked in higher education institutions and held a number of different educational roles. One of her earliest achievements at the University was in her role as Physiotherapy Clinical Placement Lead, where Denise developed a North West Regional common assessment tool for physiotherapy students in collaboration with academic colleagues from four other Universities and with partners from professional practice. The assessment tool continued to be used for over a decade with physiotherapy students, and has since formed the basis for a national model.

Denise is a strong advocate for student-centred higher education that places emphasis on graduate employability. She takes a keen interest in ensuring that the education of health professionals at all levels is shared through the involvement of service users and carers, and for the past decade she has been an invited member of the North West Allied Health Professions Network.

A Professor of Healthcare Science, Denise has led the development of innovative education programmes across health care and beyond, in collaboration with employers; supporting workforce transformation and the development of new roles to meet the demands of contemporary health and social care practice. This has always been undertaken with a keen interest in service user and carer involvement in healthcare education development and delivery. Denise has a significant track record of successful strategic partnership development, organisational change management, strategy development, implementation and delivery.

Her current research activity is concerned with digital innovation and it's use to support clinical simulation.
