About
I am based in the School of Dentistry as a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences.
I have previously undertaken the role of Programme Director of Anatomy & Human Biology and Deputy Programme Director of Biological and Medical Sciences BSc (Hons) programme in the school of Life Sciences, alongside roles as one of the School of Life Sciences Departmental Disability Contacts (DDCs), before moving to the school of Dentistry where I am now CLC1 Component Lead.
I am an alumni of Leeds Metropolitan University having studied for my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences (graduating in 2011) and completing a subsequent MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences at the University of Liverpool. I obtained my PhD in Microbiology in 2017 in the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool. I have extensive research experience of culture dependent and molecular methods for microbial analysis and testing of a wide range of environments and have undertaken a number of PDRA positions at the University of Liverpool, including as part of the Open Innovation Hub for Antimicrobial Research and fostered links to industry. My current research interests focus around the monitoring of microorganisms from environmental and clinical samples and understanding their role in infection and disease, alongside the use of antimicrobial agents for treatment of a wide array of infections. I also have expertise in cell culture and bioinformatics of microbial communities.
I have a strong interest in education and scholarship of teaching and learning, obtaining both my PGCAP and PGDAP. I am a Fellow of the HEA and a member of the Microbiology Society Education and Outreach Network.
