Oral Health Research
Lorraine is a member of the Oral Health Research Group which is committed to advancing oral health research through collaborative and person-focused research. Particular interests are in minimum intervention oral care and promoting minimum intervention approaches for the management of dental caries.
Her research experience in this field also includes the detection, activity assessment and diagnosis of dental caries, including methods such as quantitative light-induced fluorescence, laser fluorescence and implementation of the International Caries Classification and Management System (ICCMS). She has undertaken research on dental hard tissues using transverse microradiography and biofilms using real-time polymerase chain reactions (qPCR).
Dental Education Research
Lorraine is a member of the Dental Educational Research Group, and has a particular interest in research investigating clinical skills development. This research has involved the introduction of haptic simulation to pre-clinical students, implementation of remote learning opportunities and personalised coaching to support deliberate practice.
