Research
Impact of Visual Impairment after Stroke (IVIS) II: Measuring and exploring vision-related quality of life
Aim
To evaluate the Brain Injury-related Visual Impairment Impact Questionnaire (BIVI-IQ) for use in clinical practice and research for measuring impact on quality of life in individuals with post-stroke visual impairment.
Objectives
1) Assess the psychometric properties of BIVI-IQ
2) Assess the reliability of proxy reporting by family or carer using the BIVI-IQ;
3) Explore the impact of visual impairment on stroke survivors and correlate with formal measures of impact;
4) Develop and pilot test an ‘easy-read’ version of the BIVI-IQ;
5) Explore implementation of the BIVI-IQ into clinical practice.
Impact of Visual Impairment after Stroke (IVIS)
A research programme with four objectives:
• The first objective is, through systematic reviews and surveys, to identify different questionnaires available for people to tell us about their visual problems and identify different treatments available for eye movement problems.
• The second is to determine, in a clinical observation study, how frequently visual problems occur and what happens over time.
• The third is to identify the impact of issues faced by stroke survivors relating to visual problems.
• Finally, the fourth objective is to conduct trials of treatments for eye movement problems following stroke.
Vision Screening Assessment (VISA)
Development and validation of a vision screening assessment tool and training package for use by non-eye trained professionals.
