Research

Muscle Physiology and Biomechanics

Iain Young’s primary research focus is the use of physiology and proteomics to understand the growth, development and properties of muscle.

Proteomics

Application of Proteomics to better understand muscle growth and development

Cross disciplinary Approaches to Sustainability

Iain also promotes cross-disciplinary approaches (biology, electronics, sensor development, agrotechnology) to address food security challenges; working closely with industry to develop new approaches and new technologies and delivering R&D. This has resulted in funding and projects (EU, BBSRC, TSB/Innovate UK) as diverse as novel sensor development for water quality measurement, anaerobic digestion of agriculture by-products, new and more sustainable protein sources for aquaculture feeds, smart monitoring and advanced water treatment technologies.
