Research
Helen has a wide range of clinical interests, although is particularly interested in infectious disease. She has published research on the topics of cellulitis in horses, iatrogenic synovial sepsis following intra-articular injections in horses, and welfare scoring of wild ponies.
Helen is also contributing to the development of teaching models and simulators to assist with teaching practical clinical skills to veterinary students. She has published research on this topic, including a literature review and a paper describing an equine castration simulator which she created after receiving a research grant from the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences (IVES) at the University of Liverpoool. Helen has presented her castration simulator research at veterinary education conferences. Helen is currently working on a number of other simulators, and in 2023 she was awarded a grant from the University's Centre for Innovation in Education for their development.
