About
Helen is a veterinary surgeon and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013, having undertaken a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology & Zoology beforehand at the University of Liverpool. She is a Senior Lecturer in Equine Practice and joined the first-opinion ambulatory equine veterinary team at Leahurst Equine Practice in February 2018. Helen's primary role is clinical and she is a practising veterinary surgeon at our first-opinion ambulatory equine practice.
Helen has a Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Medicine and is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Internal Medicine. Helen has interests in all aspects of equine medicine, but particularly infectious disease, cellulitis, neurology and laminitis. Her Master's degree project focused on the diagnosis and treatment of distal limb cellulitis in horses by UK vets. Her current research interests include topics related to veterinary education, notably the use of models or simulators for teaching practical clinical skills to veterinary students.
Helen is the Senior Tutor for the 5th year of the BVSc (Veterinary Science) course and is dedicated to the pastoral care of the students in the final year.
Outside of work, Helen is a keen martial artist; she obtained her 3rd Dan black belt in Japanese Ju-jitsu in December 2021, is a qualified martial arts instructor and has published research in the field of martial arts. She is also a keen swimmer, having completed a relay swim across the English Channel in 2013 and multiple other open water events.
