Project: Agricultural change in Britain: modelling past impacts to predict the future.
Leverhulme Trust funded research project (2014-2016: Dr Hugh Smith (PI), Dr Mark Riley, Dr John Boyle, Professor Richard Chiverrell) that coupled different records of recent agricultural landscape change (e.g. social records of change based on historic farm surveys and interviews) with ensemble modelling of soil erosion and fine sediment delivery to streams (e.g. CAESAR, RULSE, and Morgan-Morgan-Finney models) to model the effect of recent and past changes in agricultural land use practices on erosion and sediment movement, and used this as a platform from which to simulate impacts for a range of future land management, restoration and climate change scenarios. The project focused on six lake catchments in Britain.
