About

I came to Liverpool in 2013 from Keele University. Prior to this I worked at the University of Stirling. I started my academic career at the University of Bristol where I studied for a Masters in Society and Space and a PhD in Human Geography. This background has set my course as an interdisciplinary, interpretive and ethnographic researcher.

My research falls broadly into the areas of the Sociology of Consumption, Critical Marketing and Organisation Studies. Topics I've researched recently include marketplace exclusion, gender and identity at work and mealtime and food cultures. I've published in journals such as Sociology, Sociology of Health and Illness; The Sociological Review, Gender, Work and Organization; Organization Studies; The European Journal of Marketing; and Consumption, Markets and Culture. I have a third edition of a co-authored teaching text ‘Contemporary Issues in Marketing and Consumer Behaviour’ to be published in 2023.

I was Academic Lead for Athena Swan from 2016-2022 - we were awarded Silver in Dec 2021.
