About

I completed my PhD degree in Biocatalysis in 2012, at the University of the Free State (UFS) in South Africa. After a short contract working for the UFS on a project involving an industrial partner, I obtained a post-doctoral research fellowship with the Veterinary Biotechnology group at UFS. During this post I was involved in numerous projects involving recombinant protein production for applications in animal and human health. In 2017, I joined the Yeast Biotechnology group of the Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech faculty of the University of Liège, Belgium, in a bioprocess engineering-based project in collaboration with a Belgian industrial partner. This position, as a post-doctoral researcher / assistant professor, was undertaken on a fellowship co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme. In 2019, I joined the Institute of Integrative Biology at the University of Liverpool, England, as a Research Associate.

As a yeast biotechnologist, my prior research has spanned over a range of topics including biocatalysis, human and animal health and bioprocess engineering. These projects involved numerous collaborations with academic and industrial partners, toward the production of various types of recombinant proteins in numerous yeast species. My main research interests include the use of yeast species, natural or genetically engineered, for the production of proteins and chemical compounds of interest to biotechnological applications in the industrial and medical sectors.
