About
Chia-Lin joined the Department of Geography and Planning in September 2018. Prior to joining University of Liverpool, she was a lecturer in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University (2015-2018). She has cross-disciplinary education trajectory and career development in relation to built environment. She obtained the first two degrees in architecture in National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan before her planning degrees in MSc Urban Regeneration and PhD in Urban and Regional Planning studies in the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London. She had work experience as a civil servant in the urban and regional planning bureau in two local governments (2000-2006) in Taiwan.
Her research interests lie in exploring the relationship between transport and territorial development on multiple spatial scales and associated development issues such as inequality, injustice, polarisation, segregation on people and places, seeking possible strategies, solutions and policy implications for planning and design.
Chia-Lin has published widely in the field of territorial transformation, strategic planning and transport geography, establishing her international research recognition on the topic of high-speed rail (HSR) and its wider spatial-economic impacts in the urban and regional transformation. She contributed to research consultancy work commissioned by Asian Development Bank and International Transport Forum, OECD.
She is the Secretary and Steering Committee Member of Transport and Geography Commission, International Geographical Union (2020- 2024). From 2018, she has been on the international editorial board of Journal of Transport Geography. She is an external examiner for MSc Urban and Regional Planning, a joint programme between University of Glasgow, UK and Nankai University, China (2021-2025) and previously for MSc Transport Planning and Management, University of Westminster (2019-2023). She has been appointed as a Honorary Research Fellow in National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan (2020-2023) for research collaboration and supervision.
