About
Dr Carly Lightowlers is a Reader in Criminology at the University of Liverpool. She is also currently a Research Fellow funded by ADR UK. Her research makes use of administrative and secondary data sources with which to study alcohol-related violence, the processing of such cases through the courts, and the unequal distribution of such harm. Whilst alcohol consumption and associated offending are key research interests, she has also conducted research into violence more broadly (for example, on the 2011 English ‘riots’ and as part of an ESRC funded research project analysing the characteristics of victims and perpetrators of Modern Slavery offences). Before joining the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology in 2017, Dr Lightowlers worked both as an Alcohol Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Criminal Justice at Liverpool John Moores University and held a Fellowship in Policing Data Analytics the University of Leeds.
Dr Lightowlers sits on the Editorial Board for Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy and is an Associate Editor for Criminology
