Teaching

I have experience of a number of teaching methods, including small group teaching, case-based discussions and lectures.
My experiences are: a) undergraduate teaching including clinical skills, clinical (OSCE) and written examinations, educator of Advanced Medical Practice (SAMP) students, research and scholarship supervisor; b) postgraduate teaching includes small group clinical teaching and lecturers of resident doctors, supervision of MSc, MRes and PhD students.

Supervised Medical/MSc/MRes Students:

1) 2023-2024: Alyssa Shiramba: MRes student in Biomedical Sciences and Translational Medicine (UoL). Project: “MRI guided focused ultrasound for essential tremor: a systematic review”. Co-supervisor: Mr Jibril Osman-Farah (Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Walton Centre). The results of the project are published in Movement Disorders Journal.
2) 2022-2023: Anjum Aarifa Khanom: MRes student in Clinical Sciences (UoL). Project: “Cervical Dystonia Patients with Psychiatric Disorders Show More Motor and less Non-Motor Improvement after DBS surgery”. The results of the project are published in Deep Brain Stimulation Journal.
3) 2022: Sana Kalathil: 4th year Medical (UoL), elective placement.
4) 2021-2022: Wajeeh-Ur-Rehman Kashif: RS 3 (Research & Scholarship MBChB programme) student (UoL). Project: “Does Directional Deep Brain Stimulation Lead to Better Symptom Relief and Quality of Life in Cervical Dystonia compared to non-directional stimulation?”. Co-supervisor: Mr Jibril Osman-Farah (Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Walton Centre).
5) 2021-2022: Anjum Aarifa Khanom: RS 3 (Research & Scholarship MBChB programme) student (UoL). Project: "Bilateral Globus Pallidus Internus (GPi) Deep Brain Stimulation for Cervical Dystonia: Effects on Motor and Non-Motor Symptoms within 5 Years Follow”. Co-supervisor: Mr Jibril Osman-Farah (Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Walton Centre). The results of the project are published in Journal of Neurological Sciences.
6) 2020-2021: Harry Sharples: MRes student in Biomedical Sciences & Translational Medicine student (UoL). Project “White matter alterations of the motor heterogeneity in early de novo Parkinson's disease: a connectometry study”.
Co-supervisor: Prof. Simon Keller (Professor in Neuroimaging).
7) 2020-2021: Rakshanda Sadavarte: RS 3 (Research & Scholarship MBChB programme) student (UoL). Project: “Anatomical alterations of the cerebellum in Parkinson’s Disease: State of art and future perspectives of neuroimaging studies”. Co-supervisor: Prof. Simon Keller (Professor in Neuroimaging).
8) 2019-2020: Hilary Shepherd: first year medical student at University of Liverpool engaged in the NeuroSoc (Neurology & Neurosurgery Society) / INSPIRE programme. Project: “Impulse control disorder in Parkinson’s disease patients treated with Deep Brain Stimulation; an assessment pre and post-surgery”. Co-supervisor: Mr Jibril Osman-Farah (Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Walton Centre). The results of the project are published in Journal of Neurological Sciences.
9) 2019-2020: Rakshanda Sadavarte: second year medical student of University of Liverpool engaged in the NeuroSoc (Neurology & Neurosurgery Society) / INSPIRE programme. Project: “Combined Botulinum Toxin and Gpi DBS therapy in intractable cervical dystonia: a single centre experience and review of literature”. Co-supervisor: Mr Jibril Osman-Farah (Consultant Neurosurgeon, The Walton Centre).
10) 2019-2021: Phoebe Ellis - Janet Dube - Timothy Tan: RS 3 (2019-2020) and RS 4 (2020-2021) (Research & Scholarship MBChB programme) students at UoL. Project: “A randomised pilot study for a computer-based, non-pharmalogical, cognitive intervention for motor slowing and motor fatigue in Parkinson’s Disease” Co-supervisors: Prof. Charles Leek (Prof of Psychology) and Dr Rhys Davis (Consultant Neurologist, The Walton Centre).

3) 2023-2024: Dr Stephen McKeever, Academic Clinical Fellow – Internal Medicine Trainee, I have been the educational supervisor during the rotation in Neurology.
4) 2022-2023: Dr Rajish Shil, Academic Clinical Fellow – Internal Medicine Trainee, I have been the educational supervisor during the rotation in Neurology.
5) 2020: Dr Valeria Sajin, Resident in Neurology at the Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology Department of Schön Klinik Neustadt in Germany / PhD-Student at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Republic of Moldova, visiting fellow of the deep brain stimulation service at Walton Centre.
6) 2019-2020: Dr Nestor Nsengiyumva, Neurology Trainee and PhD Student at Rostov State Medical University (Russia), Grantee for the program entitled “Visiting Trainee Grant Program” of the Movement Disorder Society.

2) 2021-ongoing: Mr Yehia Ibrahim, PhD Programme: Doctoral Training Network in Technologies for Healthy Ageing (UoL).
Title: Will AI Identify Retinal Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Central Nervous System Neurodegeneration.

Title: Predicting motor impairment and neurosurgical treatment success in Parkinson’s disease using advanced neuroimaging techniques.

4) 2021-ongoing: Ms Bethany Facer: Anatomical Society PhD studentship.
Title: In-vivo dissection of white matter pathways in Parkinson’s disease: tracking progressive degeneration and biomarkers of treatment success.
