Knowledge Exchange and External Teaching
From 2021 to 2022, he provided training for Public Health Agency laboratories across the UK in using genomics for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance. During the same period, he extended this training internationally, assisting Public Health laboratories worldwide. In 2017, he organized a five-day bioinformatics training workshop for Malawian researchers, funded by a BBSRC grant, which impacted 30 participants. Between 2015 and 2020, he was the overall MRes moderator for the XJTLU bioinformatics program and moderated the XJTLU BIO403 course on Research Methods in Post-Genomic Biology from 2014 to 2020. In 2014, he organized a three-day bioinformatics training workshop for East African researchers, funded by a new investigator BBSRC grant. Since 2011, he has been involved in running NERC/BBSRC CPD training courses at the CGR. He also served as a tutor for a Bioinformatics and Comparative Genomics postgraduate course at Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2011 and a postgraduate summer school at the University of St Andrews in 2009, where he also organized and hosted a two-day bioinformatics workshop for Veterinary Pathogen Genomic Analysis.
