Tumour-stroma interactions

Dr Ainhoa Mielgo’s laboratory focuses on investigating how tumour cells interact with the non-cancerous cells that surround cancer cells, that include fibroblasts and immune cells and form the tumour stroma. The tumour stroma plays a key role in cancer progression, metastasis and resistance to therapies. Ainhoa's team is interested in understanding the complex crosstalk between stromal, immune and tumour cells with the aim to identify physiologically relevant targets and develop more effective treatments for cancer patients. To achieve this goal, her laboratory uses a combination of innovative technologies established in her lab, including pre-clinical tumour models, patient samples, co-culture cell-based assays, quantitative proteomics, scRNA sequencing, bioinformatics, and flow and mass cytometry.
