About
I am a geneticist with experience of working with a range of model systems including cell culture, bacteria, and fungi including Escherichia coli, the food poisoning organism Clostridium perfringens, the model eukaryotes Aspergillus nidulans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Schizosacchharomyces pombe, lung and muscle cell culture systems, mouse models and human muscle biopsy material.
I am interested in interdisciplinary studies and have had collaborations around the University. Perhaps the most unusual being with Deryn Rees-Jones (English Department).
I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA and have a particular interest in developing high-quality and inclusive teaching and assessment. I have been involved in developing many innovative approaches, especially in the School of Life Sciences. I also developed and lead an innovative, collaborative, MRes in Healthy Musculoskeletal Ageing and a MOOC.
I am also passionate about equality, diversity, inclusion, and well-being and lead on a number of projects in this area for booth staff and students.
