Globally important issues such as energy supply, climate change, and mineral resource security are receiving increasing attention from the public and academia alike. Through teaching Earth Sciences, departments and lecturers find themselves with the responsibility and opportunity to arm future researchers, industry geologists, material scientists, and environmentalists, among others, with the theoretical grounding and practical skills they will need to face these issues and make decisions that ultimately impact their own lives.
