Alex Howard is a Consultant in Medical Microbiology at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Foundation Trust, a data science researcher in Antimicrobial Pharmacodynamics and Therapeutics on the Centres for Antimicrobial Optimisation Network (CAMO-NET) programme, and scientific lead on the Data Action Accelerator AMR experimental science (AMR-X) programme.
Dr Howard qualified in Medicine and Surgery in 2011, before undertaking specialist training in clinical microbiology. He is currently undertaking a PhD in personalised antimicrobial susceptibility testing and treatment using artificial intelligence. He has a research interest in the application of artificial intelligence to global antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial drug development, and clinical interests in immunocompromised infection, antimicrobial resistance, and medical mycology.
