About
I work within the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing as the Vice Dean Post-graduate Education and Business Development and also as the Institute of Population Health Lead for Continuous Professional Development (CPD). I originally qualified as a mental health nurse (RMN) in 1995, spending several years working in NHS acute mental health services before taking up a position as a lecturer within Higher Education. I have maintained active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council since 1995 until the present day.
Spending over 20 years in Higher Education I have held a number of senior roles and have maintained a passion for teaching and curriculum development. I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and have provided external educational consultancy to colleagues in various institutions within the sector, particularly in terms of curricula review and approval. I have been fortunate to have travelled extensively internationally with my work, from the Middle East to New Zealand, both in business development roles and as an academic presenting at conferences. My research interests lie in the study of socio-cultural issues, sport and mental health: I am a keen ethnographer.
Since joining the University of Liverpool in early 2021, I have supported colleagues to develop the extensive Post-graduate portfolio within the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing, of which I have oversight. This portfolio includes pre-qualifying health professions programmes, post-qualification programmes, short courses and continuing professional development modules. In 2023 I developed the first Professional Doctorate (DProfHealth) within the School, as an alternative to the traditional PhD. I am the CPD Lead for the Institution of Population Health, and work with colleagues across varying departments to ensure the continued success and growth of the Institute's life long learning provision.
