    Personal Statement

I came into nursing as a mature student, having previously worked in retail and administration roles. I studied at the University of Southampton, qualifying as a registered nurse in 2007. Since qualifying, I have enjoyed the flexibility that a nursing career provided to move around while my husband served in the Armed Forces and I raised my family. I have worked in a variety of settings, including overseas. Within the NHS, I have worked in cardiothoracic (medical and surgical) and emergency care. Away from the NHS, I have also worked as a school nurse and a disability
analyst. In 2017, I moved into an academic setting as a lecturer in practice learning followed by a role as practice lead in London just in time for the introduction of new NMC standards followed by the Covid 19 Pandemic. During the pandemic I was one of the coordinators for the education faculty at NHS Nightingale London.

Educationally, I have taught on pre-registration nursing and nurse associate course and have a strong interest in improving the academic and clinical practice experiences for pre-registration students, particularly those with additional needs.
