Yaru’s research lies in the field of organisation studies and public management. Her research focuses on professionals at both micro level (such as professional identity change, inter-professional interaction), at meso-level (such as dynamics between profession and organisation, between professionals and other stakeholders such as the public), and at macro level (professionals as custodians in institutional renewal and maintenance). She examines these topics in health and social care settings in both China and the UK.

Her recent work has explored the interaction between technology and professionals. Specifically, she studies the following questions: (1) how technologies such as AI are changing professionals, reconfiguring professional work, and the nature of expertise? (2) What is the role of professionals in shaping, resisting, engaging, or coping with the transformation of professional work with AI?

Yaru was awarded PhD from Warwick Business School in 2016, and her doctoral thesis focused on work reconfiguration in a health and social care organisation. Her work has been published in a number of international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, Public Administration, Human Resource Management Journal, and BMC Health Services Research. She is a member of the Academy of Management and the European Group of Organization Studies and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK.

Yaru served as the Director of Studies for both the MSc HRM Programme and the online MSc IHRM Program for ULMS. Prior to that, she held posts as Deputy Director of Studies for both the MSc HRM Programme and the online MSc IHRM Program at ULMS.
