About

Dr Warren Donnellan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Liverpool. Warren's research interests lie in the intersecting areas of resilience, (un)paid caregiving, and dementia. Warren's research portfolio has included: resilience in spousal and parental dementia care; resilience in the dementia social care workforce; social support and resilience in end-of-life care; illness perceptions in end-stage renal disease; experiences of bereaved relatives and health and social care professionals during COVID-19; resilience in new mothers during COVID-19; emotional word use on discussion forums in carers of people living with dementia; and the role of digital support and social media in enhancing unpaid carer resilience. He has expertise in the use of mixed methods, but specialises in cross-sectional and longitudinal qualitative research using primary and secondary data. Warren has published a diverse range of research outputs stemming from his work (see Publications) and regularly disseminates his research in the form of blogs, podcasts, social media, and news appearances.

Warren's current teaching is focused on life course development, individual differences, and positive psychology. He also specialises in teaching qualitative research methods. Warren currently coordinates two modules at Level 6: Psychological Issues in Adult Ageing and Positive Psychology. He has won several awards in recognition of his teaching, scholarship and curriculum development, including a Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Award and a prestigious Learning and Teaching Fellowship. Warren has established a strong reputation for supporting disabled students, co-developing a multi award-winning series of resilience workshops for students experiencing presentation, exam, and statistics anxiety, and more recently a peer support group for disabled students across the Institute of Population Health.

Warren was awarded a Senior Fellowship of Advance HE in 2019 in recognition of his educational leadership. He is also a proud member of the British Society of Gerontology and a Chartered Psychologist through the British Psychological Society.
