About

I currently work at the University of Liverpool as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Director of Online Studies in Psychology. I am responsible for the coordination of our online postgraduate psychology programmes in association with our partners Kaplan Open Learning. This predominantly comprises of three Masters-level programmes: MSc Psychology (Conversion), MSc Mental Health Psychology, and MSc Organisational and Business Psychology, and associated sub-awards.

On campus, I deliver a third-year module on the Psychology of Psychosis, and support students' research on this topic. My research and teaching primarily focuses on experiences of psychosis (and related diagnoses, e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder); particularly in terms of stigma, self-stigma and recovery concepts - but more broadly covers mental health and its wider social determinants. I use a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches in my research. Current projects centre on recovery perceptions in psychosis, psychosis-related experiences in non-clinical populations, and the stigmatisation of psychosis and related diagnoses in mass media.

I would be pleased to hear from PhD students in the following areas: psychosis (diagnoses or symptom-level), severe mental health issues, mental health stigma and discrimination, sub-clinical symptoms and spectrum views of psychoses, mental health recovery.
