Dr Vasiliki Zali-Schiel is a Lecturer in Classics. She joined Liverpool as University Teacher in Ancient Greek Culture and Language and, until recently, acted also as departmental outreach co-ordinator. Dr Zali-Schiel specializes in Classical Greek Historiography, in particular Herodotus and his ancient and Byzantine reception. She is interested in narrative techniques, rhetorical aspects of historical writing, myth, and national identities, and in Procopius. She has a published a monograph on the use of speech in Herodotus ('The Shape of Herodotean Rhetoric', Brill 2014) and a volume, co-edited with J. Priestley, on Herodotus' ancient and modern reception ('Brill’s Companion to the Reception of Herodotus in Antiquity and Beyond', Brill, 2016). She is currently working on a monograph on Herodotus' reception in Procopius' 'Wars'.
