About
Dr. Tsegay Gebrehiwot Gebru is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Statistical genetics (Statistics) working with Professor Andrea Jorgensen in the department of health data science (HDS), University of Liverpool. Tsegay received his BSc in 2005 and his MSc in 2009 both in Statistics from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Tsegay further studied his PhD in Statistics focusing on sparse linear discriminant analysis with high-dimensional multivariate data and its application on health and biological data. Tsegay graduated his PhD from the Open University, UK, in 2018. He has experiences in DNA methylation quantitative trait loci (mQTL), Genome-wide Association Studies (GWAS), Mendelian Randomization and Bayesian Network Analysis, and High-dimensional multivariate analysis.
Tsegay joined the department of HDS in January 2023. His research interests include developing and applying different statistical genetic methods and analyzing large datasets (cohorts) to identify the genetic and non-genetic factors associated with diverse diseases such as Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and other complex diseases. He is currently working on the analysis of genetic and clinical data of Epilepsy with survival outcome. He is planning to develop and apply statistical and machine learning methods to efficiently study the genetic and non-genetic causes of Epilepsy.
