About

Dr Tom Moore is a Senior Lecturer in Housing and Planning.

He is co-Editor-in-Chief of the Housing & Society journal and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Housing Policy.

He is Programme Director for the MA Housing & Community Planning and undergraduate programmes in Town & Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Environment & Planning and Geography & Planning.

Tom's principal research interests are in housing policy and practice and community planning, with a particular interest in the ways in which citizens participate in and influence the planning system. He is also interested in issues of social and spatial equity and justice and these are mediated by housing interventions. He has conducted research on forms of community-led housing and community land trusts for over 10 years and has been funded by a range of public, private and third sector organisations.

Tom is currently involved in research projects on:

- A review of purpose-built student accommodation in Scotland (Scottish Government, 2022)
- Black and minority ethnic communities and community-led housing (Nationwide Foundation, Tudor Trust, CLT Network, Power to Change, Confederation of Cooperative Housing, East Midlands community-led housing, 2022-23).
- Research and evaluation of the impacts of global community-led housing alliances (World Habitat, 2021-22)
- Co-producing solutions with low-income renters in Scotland (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2021-22)
- An evaluation of the creation, growth and development of community-led housing enabler hubs in England (Power to Change, 2019-22)

Tom is keen to develop international collaborations and collaborative projects on themes of housing justice, equity, and community participation.
