I joined the University of Liverpool as a lecturer in August 2023. Before joining Liverpool, I taught at the Department of Sociology, University of Hong Kong. My main area of research is gender, law, and crime with an international and comparative perspective. I also have a strong interest in sociology of sexuality and research methods. My research project on violence against women in China has been supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, the Harvard-Yenching Institute, the Henry Luce Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund through the China-US Scholars Program, Institute of International Education. I am the co-academic integrity officer of the SSPC, and also a member of the University Research Ethics Committee, SLSJ Internationalisation Committee, SSPC International Criminological Research Unit, Feminist Legal Research and Action Network in the Law School.
I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in gender studies from the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Cambridge, where I was also an affiliated PhD scholar at the Institute of Criminology. My Ph.D. was supported by the Cambridge Commonwealth, European, and International Trust, as well as the Fitzwilliam College through the Graduate Scholarship, Senior Scholarship, and Trust Research Fund. I also acknowledge the financial support from Feminist Criminology. Additionally, I hold a Doctor of Juridical Science from the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong. I have been a fellow at the Centre for Criminology, University of Hong Kong since August 2022 and was a Grotius research scholar at the Michigan Law School from August 2021 to July 2022. Currently, I am an elected board member of the Association of Chinese Criminology and Criminal Justice. I also serve on the Publications Committee and the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Division of Feminist Criminology, American Society of Criminology. I was a visiting scholar of Columbia Law School and Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore in 2014. I have been qualified to advise on Chinese laws since 2008.
When I was young, I used to be a professional table tennis player in China. I am proud to have been the recipient of the Paul Day Sports Scholarship from Fitzwilliam College in 2017. I was also a member of the Cambridge Men’s First Table Tennis Team in the Varsity Matches in 2017 and 2018.
