About

My research focusses on online political communication, particularly during election campaigns in the United Kingdom. More recently I have expanded my research focus, assessing gendered online incivility in politics, and informal online political communication such as memes and satirical posting.

I have been a member of the Department of Communication and Media since 2017. Before then I worked in the Department of Politics at the University of Manchester as a post-doctoral Research Associate. My PhD, assessing the adoption and use on online tools by candidates at the 2010 UK General Election, was undertaken in the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research, also at the University of Manchester.

I am a on the steering committee for the Centre for Media, Digital Democracy and Politics at the University and Liverpool and an associate member of the Centre for Democratic Engagement at the University of Leeds.
