Professional Activities

My work on the history of health research led Universities UK to convene a high level health research policy seminar in May 2018 at which I presented findings and contributed to discussion with policy makers about the relevance of history to future policy directions.

I am employed part-time by the Health Protection Research Unit on Emerging and Zoonotic Infections in Liverpool's Institute of Infection and Global Health (IIGH), supporting Professor Tom Solomon on policy impact activities. This involves bringing the policy implications of the Unit's work to the attention of Parliament, Government and opinion-formers at national level.

Established and organised a History and Policy seminar series for civil servants at the Department of Health and Social Care, attracting a monthly participation of >80.

I have also taken part in public engagement work on antimicrobial resistance within the University's department of continuing education ('Science in the Cafe' at Liverpool Central Library), and in the University's 'Pint of Science' festival.

Secondment to the public health department at Liverpool City Council, 2023, to work on improving their use of research.
