I am a Research Fellow (Clinical) at the Musculoskeletal Science Research Group (MSSRG). My main research interest includes multidisciplinary evaluation of Neuromuscular Function in musculoskeletal conditions with the use of electromyographic (EMG), dynamometric, and bio-impedance measurements particularly in relation to upper limb disorders. I received the Young Investigator Award from the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EU - EFSMA) for my research on Tennis Elbow in 2005. Other research interests involve the assessment of outcome following rehabilitation/exercise programmes and orthopaedic surgical procedures by quantification of musculoskeletal performance, and evaluation of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in musculoskeletal patients through interviews, and objective- and subjective measurement tools. The majority of research activities are conducted in collaboration with the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit (LULU).
My clinical duties include attending upper limb clinic at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT), clinical-research liaison to assure that complex acquisition of good quality clinical data is closely integrated with laboratory based research, and monitoring the use and outcome of orthopaedic implants for elbow (Discovery Elbow System) and shoulder pathologies.
The departmental responsibilities entail the development of a new MSc programme in Musculoskeletal Science and Technology, monitoring and supporting research-related activities within the MSSRG, preparation and submission of grant applications to the external bodies, organizing ethical databases and departmental seminar programmes, and supporting new postgraduate students in developing their research skills.
