Teaching
In my time at Liverpool I have devised and taught 23 different modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. These range from music industry topics such as Music Contracts, Artist Management and Managing Classical Music across to Songwriting and Music and Politics.
Music Industry
My teaching Music Industry stretches back 20 years. Over that time I have needed to introduce and amend a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. There is a reason for each module and each modification but the consistent elements are that musicians either need to manage themselves or to be managed - because they are de facto businesses as well as 'artists'. And, because of this, they must always enter into legally-binding agreements, so the study of contracts is central to understanding music industry.

Music and Politics
Politics is never far from music because music exists as a fundamental form of commentary on its social and cultural contexts of composition and production. At different times I have taught versions of a module with the title Music and Politics.
Songwriting
As a former songwriter I retain a strong sense of pop composition, notably song-lyrics and how they need to work with and within musical settings. I have introduced and taught two songwriting modules:
Song-writing and Symbolic Goods
