About

Dr Megan Readman is an NIHR and Alzheimer's Society-funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow whose research focuses on dementia risk and risk reduction. She is particularly interested in understanding how potentially modifiable risk factors contribute to the development of different dementia subtypes, especially rarer forms of dementia that have historically received less research attention, and how co-occurring health conditions shape the experiences of people living with dementia.

Her current research, conducted alongside Dr Clarissa Giebel and Professor Chris Plack, explores the relationship between hearing loss and Lewy body dementias, including Parkinson's disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies. This work investigates hearing loss both as a potential risk factor for the development of Lewy body dementias and as a co-occurring condition that may influence the experiences, health outcomes, and support needs of people living with these conditions.

Megan also has a broader interest in dementia education. Her work explores how innovative and immersive approaches, including virtual reality, can support understanding of the lived experience of dementia, encourage empathy and perspective-taking, and improve dementia knowledge within communities. She is also interested in interventions designed to increase awareness of dementia risk factors and promote engagement in behaviours that may reduce dementia risk across the life course.

Megan is a member of the Liverpool Dementia & Ageing Research Forum, which brings together researchers, practitioners, and people with lived experience to advance understanding of dementia and ageing and improve care. She is also an academic linking pin in the NWC Living Lab in Ageing and Dementia.
