Mark Collier graduated with a BA in Ancient History and Egyptology and a PhD in Egyptology from University College London. He was then a British Academy Post-doctoral Fellow and Junior Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge until 1992, and then a Post-doctoral Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford until 1996. He arrived at Liverpool as a Lecturer in Egyptology in 1996. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2004 and to a personal chair as a Professor of Egyptology in 2011. He has served in a number of the key roles (some quite a few times) of the department such as Admissions Tutor, Subject Lead (for Egyptology) and Director of Learning & Teaching and was Head of Department from 2009 to 2012.
