About

I came to Liverpool in 2006 as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and was appointed to a permanent position in 2007. I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at New College, Oxford, and taught in Oxford for three years before taking up a DAAD grant to conduct research in Berlin; from there I moved to Manchester to take up the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship prior to coming to Liverpool.

My teaching and research focuses on contemporary German-language literature and culture as well as literature from the Weimar period and earlier, and I also translate contemporary German literature. I am particularly interested in images of Berlin in fiction and have written extensively on Nobel prize-winner Herta Müller.

I currently supervise a range of PhD projects in Translation Studies, and would particularly welcome enquiries about postgraduate research in contemporary literature (including comparative literature), translation (especially from German) and Berlin culture and literature.
