Research Interest 1

My main research areas are in postcolonial literature and theory, new literatures in English, contemporary British fiction and comparative literature. My theoretical interests are varied, but include nationalism/transnationalism, race, identity, globalisation and the nexus between politics and literature. More specifically, I am interested in exploring texts and cultural representations which engage with legacies of the British empire in the British countryside and in postcolonial rural spaces. I am currently embarking on a research project on Black British literature and heritage, funded in part by the British Academy.

    Research collaborations

Centre for the Study of International Slavery

I work with other staff member across the university to create a collegial atmosphere in which to exchange ideas and to support research efforts and dissemination. The Centre also provides a crucial opportunity for me to network with other scholars from other universities and institutions.

    Culture and Creativity Research Network

I am a steering committee member of the research network and will be seeking to use the network's connection with Liverpool's cultural partners to disseminate research outputs from my project on the Black British Countryside.
