Professional Activities
Antislavery Knowledge Network. I am part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) antislavery knowledge network which is a four year project led by Alex Balch (Liverpool) to draw awareness of contemporary slavery in sub-Saharan Africa. The project involves three of the main UK centres on research into slavery with leading antislavery NGOs and a range of academic and non-academic partners across West and Central Africa in Ghana, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A database of the historic slave trade is being created by colleagues at the University of Ghana and the Ghana Monuments and Museums Board and I am helping in an advisory role.
I am also working with the National Heritage Conservation Commission (Zambia) to have the site of Kalambo Falls, Zambia recognised as a World Heritage Site on the basis of its archaeological and geological significance.
