Research
In addition to my main postdoctoral project, I am a country coordinator for the Political Party Database Project (see: https://www.politicalpartydb.org/countries/ireland/). I am also currently the Principal Investigator on a new project called ‘Structuring Representation in a United Ireland: Federal models’, in collaboration with Dr Harikrishnan Sasikumar of Dublin City University. This project won funding from the James Madison Charitable Trust, which is a charity dedicated to the support of research into federal government in Europe. The project aims to examine the role of federalism as a constitutional settlement in a divided society following a potential referendum result in support of Irish reunification. Importantly, the cases of Spain and Belgium transitioning to federal structures during critical periods will be compared to the Irish context.
