Studio: BA3
Together with Prof Ola Uduku I lead the [AHUWA] BA3 Studio. The AHUWA studio will investigate: -Climate responsive design (designing with climate; considering solar, shading, lighting, thermal and acoustic environments and their influence on holistic sustainable design ) -Community engagement with design; through consultation, participation and evaluation proceses -Shifting Design Scales: From City-level to Pavement curb stone detailing The project will: - design-with-climate to create environmental comfort with sustainable materials and technology. -Respond to the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations, especially SDGs 7; 9; 11; 12. -Develop innovative design solutions responding to the warm humid climates ‘the tropics’ in the Global South and other climate-defined regions, in the UK and elsewhere -Work with communities to develop sustainable solutions -Utilise rich archival and historical material sources to inform new design solutions that resonate climatologically and culturally to local contexts and seek to develop a clear ambition for the future of our towns, cities, and villages. This year we're investigating the Mersey Tunnel entrances and how they might be reimagined. In 2nd Semester we're looking at the coastal edges of Morecambe and Accra.
Research Methods and Dissertation
I teach the M.Arch Research Methods course. This feeds into the dissertation projects. See http://www.presidentsmedals.com/Entry-14960 for a recent prize winner.
K10D Architecture (Design Studies)
I'm course Director for this programme, which is a non-accredited route for students who do not intend to go on to become qualified architects. Students are able to pursue modules from other departments and disciplines, as well as formulating and writing a dissertation in Year 3.
