About

I joined the Management School in December 2015 after graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a PhD degree in Operations Management. I also obtained my Master’s degree in Operations Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and my Bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Communications Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. Prior to my PhD studies, I had worked in a FTSE 100 company as a Lead Engineer for several years.

My research focuses on two areas: (1) social media technologies in operations management, and (2) social responsibility in global supply chain management. Some of my research papers related to these two areas are published or forthcoming in Management Science (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), Production and Operations Management (ABS 4; FT50; UTD24), and International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), among others.

For the first research area, my research about the impact of firms’ social media initiatives on operational efficiency and innovativeness has been published in Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), representing one of the earliest social media-focused papers published in this top journal in operations management. Currently I am helping build a stronger research community in this emerging research area. For example, I have co-edited a special issue on “The Use of Social Media in Operations and Supply Chain Management” for International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4). I have also organised a two-day research workshop on the same theme in Liverpool and a relevant special track at the 2019 POMS International Conference. Currently I am working on a social media research project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

For the second research area, my research about the impact of sustainable supply chain practices on firms’ financial risk has been published in International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4) and selected as the Outstanding Paper of the Year. This research has received news coverage from several Dutch media outlets such as Supply Chain Magazine, Duurzaam Bedrijfsleven, and The Accountant and has been featured on the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development’s (VBDO) website. Currently I am co-editing two relevant special issues, one on “Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Emerging Markets” for Transportation Research Part E (ABS 3), and the other on “Extreme Weather and Production Economics” for International Journal of Production Economics (ABS 3). Relatedly, I will co-chair a special track on “Climate Crisis and Operations Management” at the 2022 EurOMA Conference. I am also leading several social responsibility-focused research projects funded by the British Academy, Leverhulme Trust, N8 AgriFood, and University of Liverpool, respectively.

Currently I am serving the Operations Management research community as an Associate Editor of Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24) and International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), and an Editorial Review Board Member of International Journal of Production Economics (ABS 3) and Decision Sciences (ABS 3). I have also been an Associate Editor of European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) and Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) since 2019.
